Course Description: This course is a Study of American History from 1865 to the present. This course will examine the continuing political, social, cultural and economic developments of the United States from Reconstruction through the Second World War and the postwar years. Emphasis will be placed on the increasing power of the Presidency, the role of America as a world leader, industrial and technological growth and its impact on the environment. Course Objective: At the successful completion of this course, students will be able to define and comprehend major trends and events in U.S. History for the covered time periods. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to identify and generalize the developments in U.S. History after 1865. Methodology: Course will consist of both a lecture and collaborative teaching approach utilizing class discussion, text, PowerPoint presentations and independent study.Semester Project: There will be a semester project each Semester this year.Examinations: Exams will be given at the end of each unit. Exams will consist of multiple choice, identifications, and essay. Exams will be weighted double the points.Make-Up work and tests: Will NOT be given except upon presentation of evidence satisfactory to me demonstrating actual physical incapacitation or dire emergency. If you are going to be gone, you need to contact me prior to you missing class. You are in charge of any make-up assignments!Final Grade: To be determined by the exams, class work, semester projects, and group assignment. Responsibilities: Regular attendance and promptness is required with a limit of 5 absences. Any student with 4 or more tardies will receive Saturday School or a failing grade. I can�t teach you if you are not here. Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated and will result in a failing grade. Students are expected to complete all assignments and to meet all requirements even if unable to attend class due to health or other reasons. The use of cell phones, pagers or other devices may not be used in class. |
