Mary Flegel's Web Page
Welcome to Bonneville High School
Welcome to Bonneville High School
Introduction
Thank you for visiting my web page! My name is Mary Flegel. I teach English 9, Honors English 9, and World Mythology at Bonneville High School. I love to teach. It gives me the opportunity to rub shoulders with some very nice young people, many of whom work hard and do their best to take advantage of the opportunity to receive an education. I also enjoy the relationships I have built with many of the teachers and administrators here at Bonneville.

This web page should help you to keep up with your student's work in my classes.

English 9
A Good Book is a Treasure!

English 9
In English 9 we study literature, grammar, writing, vocabulary, and reading skills. The curriculum is so packed that there is little time for frivolous activities. We do our best to prepare our students to do well on the state testing, called the ISATs, and to be prepared for thier future English classes, as well as for communicating in the world around them.

If you follow the link for English 9, you will find some of the documents and individual assignments that your student received in class. Help yourself to a copy if you need it!

Honors English 9

Honors English 9

In Honors English 9, we cover the English 9 curriculum, but we broaden and deepen the scope of study. Special reading and writing projects with a focus on evaluation, analysis, and application give the students the opportunity to experience the world of written and spoken expression more fully.

Mythology
Mythology
In World Mythology class I teach Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. We begin the semester with some of the oldest stories in known existence. We read and study literature from the Sumerian, Egpyptian, Hebrew, and Persian cultures. If time allows, we will study a smattering of Celtic or Greek mythology. It's interesting to recognize some common archetypes among the old civilizations.

Follow the link for mythology and you will find some documents pertinent to this class.

Professional Learning Community
PLC Committee
I am a member of the PLC Committee here at BHS. The PLC Committee, or Professional Learning Community Committee, is a group of BHS educators consisting of administrators, counselors, and teachers, who are committed to helping our school become just that, a professional learning community. In our school community, we are dedicated to student learning. We strive to provide a learning environment where students are excited about learning and strive for excellence. Of course, you know that many of our students already do that. As a PLC, our goal is to encourage and inspire the rest of the student body to develop that same focus and to help our  educators to be the very best we can be.
