Mitchell 2Welcome to Our Class!

Biography of Dr. Travis Mitchell

I was born into an Air Force family. As a youngster my family moved a lot because of Dad’s training requirements. Thinking back on those years I believe that I attended about ten elementary schools. Dad flew B-52’s and helicopters in Vietnam during my junior high school years. High school in the ‘70’s was entertaining enough, but it was my good fortune to attend four schools in California, Montana, and Preston, Idaho. Caught up in many historical events during my school years I gained a great interest in history and how people make decisions.

I enrolled at Utah State University after Army basic training, two years of spiritual service in Japan, and then marriage. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a second B. S. in Secondary Education. All of my graduate work was completed at Idaho State University. After twenty-two years of service with the Idaho National Guard and Army Reserve I retired from military service in 2002.

My wife, Julie, and I have four grown children, all of them are married. From these couples we have five grandchildren.

A Note about teaching at Bonneville High School

I am thrilled to be back in the classroom among the brightest minds of this generation. I have been tasked to work for the District Office on A-days and teach Economics and U. S. History 10 on B-days. My expectation is that students will be active learners, who can solve problems, work together, and learn how to inquire about topics they don’t know yet. This should be a great year for all of us.
