Teamwork is this month’s spotlighted cornerstone of culture in District 93. Successful schools foster a culture of collaboration where teachers, staff, and parents work together to design success for every child. Dr. Rick Dufour defined collaboration as working together to accomplish a goal that we cannot accomplish by ourselves. There are so many inspiring stories of how ordinary people achieved extraordinary results through teamwork. One of my all-time favorites is the film Remember the Titans, which depicted how ordinary young men overcame individual differences and personal conflicts to accomplish something extraordinary. I believe that when we come together as a cohesive team, like the young men in that film, we truly can design success for every student. Early-release time on Wednesdays, as well as the first Friday of each trimester, provide our teachers with the critical time they need to be able to work together in teams. If you know of someone—a student, a staff member, a parent or community member—who exemplifies teamwork in his or her actions, will you please recognize them by going to http://bit.ly/culturecornerstones?
